Dus... So... (What is really happening)

***  ***  **** ****

So, to answer some question about how things were "really" going with us, me and Kieran, Matthew and Kieran etcetera.

Okay, let me start to answer that everything is genuine.
Everything that is written in the blog is happened, is said, is experienced and done.
We (me) do not make anything up or "enhance things", it is what it is.
Sometimes we think about things for a while before we publish, but the blog is to share and (maybe?) also to give other people an idea about the adoption procedure and (hopefully) to encourage others that everything will be alright in the end.

So, how is it now ?
Well, fairly okay really. 5 weeks ago we met our son number 2 for the first time and now nearly 4 weeks ago Kieran came home with us.

The house meanwhile is turning into a "real home away from home" and we have everything around us that we need and want for. (See also the Daily Life posts)

Now Jane is back at work in her 2nd week we all have found a routine.

The above obviously also means that it is Kieran and me during the daytime, no choice ;-)

At the beginning, the first weeks, Kieran was very focused on Mommy. (And that is still his favourite word).  It is normal for an adoptive child to bond with one person (hopefully 1 parent) to start with and afterwards the rest of the family will follow in attention and focus.

But knowing it, does not make it any easier or more fun of course!

(With Matthew it was the other way around, his focus was mainly on me, Peter, the first weeks)
Now, after some trips together "men only" : -)  and espescially by playing in the pool together the trust has grown fast and is much stronger now.

(We were fairly astonished when Kieran jumped off the side of the swimming pool towards me, he had never done that before! That is how unpredictable children are!)

If push comes to shove Mommy is favourite. But that does not really surprise me, Daddy is the one that expects more discipline, and yes he also has a little less patience...

We had to get used to each other and, espescially Kieran, took some time to to suss things out, he was mainly used to women (Mama's) of course at the childrens home.

Kieran sleeps well, soemtime it will take some time for him to fall asleep, 'cause he wants to wait for his older brother, who can go to bed a little bit later. (Sometimes it is only minutes, but it is the idea that counts for Matthew)

Regulary Kieran will sleep in the afternoon, that was his routine for 4 years, so will take some time to change it.

Daddy has no problems to get him to go to bed and the only thing is that waking him up during the day can result in a bit of a temper. (No matter who gets him out of bed)

In the morning as well as in the evening the boys are the best of brothers!  Matthew is awake first (at least out of his bed first)  and Kieran will follow him everywhere, nearly like a puppy... untill Matt is picked up to go to school they are usually the best of friends.

In the afternoon Kieran likes to stand on a stool at the window and wait for Matthew to come home,
in his best English he will say :  "Matthew School ? Matthew Busi ?"

They are becoming real brothers already, so sometimes with a smile sometime a tear. Matthew can be boisterous in his enthusiasm, and Kieran can be whiney and cry about nothing.

(And I do really mean nothing, I do not believe that there is always a deeper meaning behind crying, not even when it is an adopted child).  Sometimes it is clear that a difference of opinion and mutual frustration between the boys leads to the crying, but all new beginnings are difficult.

In the evening it is an even bigger party, because then it's time to go into the bath together (Kieran just thinks that is fantastic!) and Matthew has always liked bathing. (A quick shower is therefore a real punishment.)  And when Kieran comes to say goodnight to Matthew, (jumping and hugging) because Matthew was not to keen on the sloppy kisses he was receiving : -) And this also brotherly love.

So that is how is really going now...

The reality that it is different with a 4-year old we did already have, but to experience it now for ourselves makes it "real" and we could not have done much preparation for that.
What definitely takes some time for all 4 of us is the language, being able to communicate easily.
Sometime it's looking, trying out, making some mistakes, from both sides.

But, we were:
(Reasonably) happy in our expectation and hope,
Now we are patient during the bonding and getting used to each other,
And we continue to perservere in the building of our bond as a family.

Thank you for the interest, the empathy and the reactions!
(if it is directly on the blog, FBook, or in any other way, we appreciate it!)
