Hello everyone, time for another post from me. Today we didn't get the news we were hoping for this week, that a (complete) proposal had been received by our adoption agency and approved by the Ministry of Justice. In our minds we had been making plans again for leaving shortly to Kenya, I was even irritated by the current high price of the plane tickets again and looking for a good deal leaving in the next week.
However our contact person at the agency was on the phone to us bright and early at 9.30am, she must have known if she didn't call us today, we would be pestering her. Sadly the child from the incomplete proposal a couple of weeks ago was allocated to parents within Kenya in the meantime, before the proposal to our agency could be completed. So we are back to square one for now, waiting for a proposal to come through which contains all the required information about the child's background, circumstances around the parent's giving it up for adoption and medical history.
You can't imagine the contradictory feelings this brings up, or perhaps you can if you have been pregnant. Is this what it's like, up one minute and down the next? Hopeful and yet worried, irritable and short tempered, weary and excited all at the same time. Maybe it is, I imagine it is. But this is a mightly long pregnancy. And if I am irritable, Peter is 10 times worse, being short tempered at the best of times. Perhaps he's having a sympathy pregnancy. But we are not the only ones who are pregnant, Matthew is expecting too. Hoping for a brother or sister, uncomprehending why it take so long and continually asking when we are leaving.
For him it's the hardest. For him, dealing with his own feelings is not too easy which is why he's got a notebook to write down or draw his thoughts and feelings, which he hasn't used lately, as he is losing the faith it is going to happen. So we try and keep it alive for him by talking about 'when Mac is here, we will do this or that or it will be this way or that' etc., but conversely by keeping it uppermost in his mind, he is always asking when we are going to go. The move is also going to be the hardest on him. If we didn't alrady have a child, this situation we are in right now would be an annoyance, a nuisance but you get on with work and life and when it happens, it will happen. But Matthew is now out of school for the summer. In Nairobi, the new school year at the Dutch school starts in less than 4 weeks. For his sake, we wanted to be in Nairobi by the first week of August to have the period of 'getting to know' Mac at the children's home, find a home and move out of the hotel or B&B we will be in initially so that Matthew can go to school settled in Nairobi, knowing his new sibling, from our home. Not from a hotel or B&B. That looks unlikely now. A new proposal may take 2-3 weeks, so best case scenario we are in Nairobi just prior to the school starting. In that case it gets complicated. Do we keep Matthew out of school to visit Mac at the children's home every day or send him to school part-time? It's not an option for me that Matthew doesn't come to get used to Mac at the children's home with us in that first week, even if he has to miss school and we have to explain that to the authorities. Matt and Mac have to bond just as much as we have to bond with Mac as his/her parents. But to me the first week of school is an important time, it's when new friendships are made and you start your new curriculum. So it's going to be a complicated time. So for now we will continue working, and Matthew will go to the holiday care group that we are now paying for on a weekly basis. he loves it and it keeps him occupied, he has friends there and comes home happily dirty and exhausted after a day's hard play, so he is enjoying his holiday so far.
On the bright side, flight prices are cheaper in August and hotels and B&Bs with availability for a week or more seem more easy to find and we have another payday from which we can put a bit more away . I do try and find the silver lining in any situation!
So keep your fingers crossed for us and one of these days we will we be posting the good news we and you are all waiting for! Thank you for your kind thoughts, messages and prayers. It does us good to know so many people are rooting for us.

*** *** NEDERLANDS =======================
