De Top 10 leuke dingen van Nairobi-Kenya --- The Great Things about Kenya

Hallo Familie, Vrienden, Burgers & Buitenlui,

Het kon natuurlijk niet uitblijven na de "zeur top 10" dan nu de positieve tegenhanger daarvan!
Was de licht negatieve geheel mijn verdienste nu dan ook met input van de gehele familie.
(niet omdat ik dit niet zelf kon verzinnen, maar gewoon omdat het dan leuker is)

Maar ja als je 2 kids van 4 en 7 deze vraag stelt dan komt er natuurlijk ook wat!
Dus we laten voor een groot deel de structuur los en in geheel willekeurige volgorde een Top ...
we zullen het wel zien! ( totdat de elektra of WiFi/kabel t opgeeft wat ook z'n charme heeft,
"Hakuna Matata, it is a wonderful phrase" ;-)

Oh en ik zet er geen namen bij, en neem het letterlijk over, dan kunnen jullie raden!

1.  Leuk, omdat ik er leeuwen kan zien.
2.  Nairobi en Kenia is leuk omdat het zo lekker warm is. (3x)
3.  Auntie Wilma and Auntie Ruth come, dus leuk omdat er mensen komen om mij te zien!
4.  De mango juice in Nairobi en ook de andere juices, vers en siroop.
5.  Bloemen, Bomen en dieren zo divers en zo veel!
6.  Nieuwe vrienden  die ook Nederlands praten.
7.  Naar Acacia Camp gaan, wel 3 x genoemd.
8.  Yaya (winkel centrum) Coffee {juice} cakes [!!!] en de Kerstboom. (cakes 4x)
9.  Simba (het knuffel leeuwtje)
10. Shopping, winkelen bij Junction winkel centrum
11. Bijna alle mensen, vooral personeel bij Brookview en de bewakers van Radar bij Yaya, eigenlijk altijd vriendelijk en goedgehumeurd en tijd voor een praatje.
12. Railway museum in Nairobi, het Spoorweg museum.(meer daarover later)
13. Buiten lunchen, bijna elke dag omdat het warm is en de zon schijnt en gewoon omdat het kan!
14. Nairobi National Park, alleen al genoeg reden om naar Nairobi te komen.
15. Zwemmen, swimming fish, het zwembad (4x)
16. Het meer bij Naivasha, nijlpaarden spotten (en veel vogels 2x)
17. Het Kindertehuis waar Kieran vandaan komt bezoeken, Grace Children's Centre.
18. De kranten, diversiteit in het nieuws niet alleen politiek maar ook info over het dierenleven en lokale zaken per provincie.Vooral in het weekend (voor ons) hilarische rubrieken over relaties en vrouwenkwesties.
19. Eigenlijk nooit hoeven na te denken wat je aantrekt, het is korte broek en T-shirt weer en het  maakt niet zoveel uit wat we dragen :-)

Er zijn ook nog wat punten die nu (vind ik) niet genoemd kunnen worden, maar vast wel terugkomen als we volgend jaar ergens een hoogtepunten lijstje / of dingen die we zullen missen lijstje maken!

Ook wel het verlangenlijstje...

* Amboseli Park (Olifanten & Kilimanjaro)
* Maasai Mara (alle beesten en de Maasai stam, hopelijk meer daarover in 2013)
* Tsavo Oost & West de grootste parken met veel katachtigen
* Nakuru Meer, Flamingo's
* Bogoria idem.

Al met al als er een keuze gemaakt moet worden tussen bijvoorbeeld Kenia en Tanzania dan toch echt Kenia behalve misschien tijdens de grote trek, alleen in augustus in de Serengeti of je moet natuurlijk de Kili. willen beklimmen...
(oh en Zanzibar reken ik niet als Tanzania :-)
Veel mensen zeggen ook dat de Kenianen over het algemeen vriendelijker zijn.

Het vergelijk tussen bijvoorbeeld Zuid-Afrika en Kenia is niet echt mogelijk naar onze mening.
De eerstgenoemde is veel westerser en al veel langer commercieel ingesteld op toeristen.

Hello Family, Friends, and Anonymous,

A while back a had a bit of a pessimistic post about the city we now live already for 15 weeks.
With good reason I only posted this in Dutch ;-)
Anyway now the positive counterpart with highlights.
This post is made with the whole family giving input.
(not because I could not think of it myself, but it is more fun doing together)

But if you ask 2 kids of 4 and 7 what they like about Nairobi and /or Kenya than you are not finished easily!
So we let go of the structure more or less and in no particular order we sum up a Top...
we will see! ( up till when electricity or wifi/cable stops, which has got it's charm,
"Hakuna Matata, it is a wonderful phrase" ;-)

Oh, I will not put any names to the list, and quote literally, than you can guess!

1. Nice, because I can see lions here.
2. Nairobi and Kenya is nice because it is nice and warm. (Mentioned 3x times)
3. Auntie Wilma and Auntie Ruth come, so nice because people come to see me!
4. The mango juice in Nairobi and also other fresh juices and squash.
5. Flowers, trees and animals - a lot of diversity and so many!
6. New friends who also speak Dutch.
7. Going to Acacia Camp, mentioned 3 x times.
8. Yaya (shopping mall) Coffee {juice} cakes [!!!] and the Christmas Tree. (cakes 4x)
9. Simba (the cuddly toy)
10.Shopping, at Junction mall.
11.Nearly all people, espescially staff at Brookview and the guards from Radar at Yaya, really nearly always friendly, in a good mood and time for a chat.
12. The Railway museum in Nairobi, (more about that later)
13. Having lunch outside, nearly every day, because it is warm and sunny and just because it is possible!
14. Nairobi National Park, that alone is enough reason to come to Nairobi.
15. Swimming, swimming fish, the pool (4x)
16. Lake Naivasha, hippo spotting. (And a lot of birds 2x)
17. To visit the The Grace Children's Centre, where Kieran used to live.
18. The newspapers, diversity in the news not only politics but also information about animal life and local things of the provinces and regions.Espescially in the weekends there are (for us) hilarious articles about relations and women's affairs.
19. Really we never have to think about what to wear, is is always shorts and T-shirt weather, and
it does not really matter that much what we wear :-)

There are some more points that we can not list right now (I think), but they will probably come back when we make a highlights / or things we will miss list sometime next year!

Also known as our wish list....

* Amboseli Park (Elephants & Kilimanjaro)
* Maasai Mara (all animals and the Maasai tribe, hopefully more about this in 2013)
* Tsavo East & West the biggest parks with lots of big cats.
* Lake Nakuru, Flamingo's
* Bogoria ditto.

All in all if one would have to make a choice between for example Kenya and Tanzania than it would really have to be Kenya except maybe during the Great Migration in August in the Serengeti or you must want to climb Mount Kilimanjaro...

(oh and Zanzibar is for me not a part of  Tanzania :-)
Lots of people say also that Kenyans are generally more friendly.

The comparison between South-Africa and Kenya is not really possible according to us.
The first is far more western and has been more commercial to tourists for a longer time.
