Voorbereidingen - Preparations

Ook al weten we nog niets op dit moment (03-02-2012) toch moeten we ons al gaan voorbereiden op een verblijf in het buitenland...
Dat betekend dat we al druk zijn met het kijken naar en opruimen van een aantal zaken zoals,

Het huis
De auto
De garage box
Op werk!

Volgens de berichten komen de Nationale Adoptie panelleden (9 m/vrouw)
half februari weer bijeen, dus voor die tijd horen we in ieder geval niets.
In Februari zijn we nog gewoon in NL.

Voor de mensen die me regelmatig zien, als ik me geschoren heb (heb nu een baard) dan hebben we iets nieuws te melden!

Via de reacties op FB begrijp ik dat ik de keuze heb tussen mn haar eraf of ..
extensions, tja denk dat, dat maar moet wachten als we terug zijn uit Kenya met een mini-masai! (onze eigen Matthew "selassie" is trouwens ook weer gekortwiekt, dus een "kaal" koppie, nadat hij van de week papa's tondeuse al had uitgeprobeerd!

Nu eerst maar eens de toekomstige kinderkamer verder afmaken, vandaag het behang eraf! (Ja, Jane ik ben bezig, even pauze, goed ;-)
We hebben er alleen nog niet over gehad hoe we dit aan Matthew, die nog niets weet, gaan uitleggen...
Al weer een poos terug hebben we beslist de slaapkamer waar Matt sliep te gebruiken als "Ma(c)k's * kamer", waarop hij verhuisde naar wat eens 't kantoortje was.Na de uitbouw hebben we nu beneden een klein kantoortje.
(hier zit Jane meestal te werken als ze thuis werkt).

* Mack is de " werknaam" die we gebruiken voor ons 2de kind, kort voor Makeda (meisje) of Mack, Mackenzie (jongen); het voelt niet goed om een toekomstig kind de hele tijd "het" te noemen.De kans is klein dat de naam blijft straks ...

Het huis proberen we zoveel mogelijk op te ruimen:
"Lees: ik moet veel weggooien"
Spullen naar de kringloop en op Marktplaats is Jane groothandelaar!
(dusse heb je iets nodig ? Laat het weten!)
We hopen het huis te kunnen verhuren via een bedrijf wat aan veel buitenlanders woonruimte levert, leeg laten staan is niet fijn en te duur.
(misschien dat we aan een collega verhuren, we zullen zien).
De auto zoeken we ook nog een tijdelijke oplossing voor, maar met alle parkeergedoe is er weinig animo om de auto (gratis) over te nemen voor een periode lijkt het ...

De garagebox staat al een poosje te koop, maar er gebeurd nog weinig, jammer want hij is zo leeg en wij kunnen het geld straks goed gebruiken!

Op werk heb ik ook al erg veel opgeruimd, van een kastinhoud van circa 6 effektiiiiiiieeeeevvv kastjes naar 1, ik zit nu op 2 op werk en wat thuis...

Ook al denken sommigen dat het een grote vakantie wordt, wij weten dat dit niet zo zal zijn.
Met dubbele uitgaven, een appartement in Nairobi & hypotheek in Hoofddorp en maar 1 inkomen (van Jane) zal er niet zo veel overblijven voor tripjes of safari.Het gespaarde geld zal voornamelijk opgaan aan de adoptie en gerelateerde kosten.

Plus Jane werkt, en ik zal het druk genoeg hebben met 2 koters.
De bedoeling is dat Matthew naar school gaat in Nairobi, maar Ma(c)k zal meest van de tijd bij papa Peter zijn.

En dan hebben we nog alles wat er moet gebeuren straks rondom de adoptie,
als we eenmaal in Kenya zijn.

Ondertussen bekijken wat we allemaal moeten inpakken van het huis en elders opslaan en langzaam aan eens denken aan spullen voor Kenya.

Volgend weekend gaat mijn oudste zus weer naar Kenya, voor een maand, dus met erg veel geluk kunnen we elkaar zien op een vliegveld in Maart ...

Hello,

Although we don’t have any new information at the moment (03-02-2012) we still need to prepare for our time abroad. This means that we are busy looking at and tidying up a few things, such as:

the house
The car
The garage
At work!

According to our last information, the National Adoption Committee (9 men and women) will meet again mid-February so till then at least we won’t hear anything.  So in February we are still in the Netherlands.

For the people who see me regularly, when I have shaved (have now got a beard) it means we have got some news!

From reactions from FB I understand I have got the choice of cutting all my hair of or getting extensions.  Right, well I think that will have to wait till we are back from Kenya with our  mini-Masai! (by the way our own Matthew "selassie" has a shaved head again, we had to go to the hairdresser following him getting his hands on daddy’s razor and trying it on his head!

First of all though the future new child’s bedroom needs to be finished, today I’ve taken the wallpaper off (yes Jane I am doing it, just taking a break, OK?)  Though we haven’t discussed yet how we are going to explain this to Matthew, who still doesn’t know what’s going on….
A while ago we decided to use the room where Matthew used to sleep, as "Ma(c)k's * room" and he moved to the room where we used to have our office.  After extending a couple of years ago we now have a little office downstairs (this is where Jane usually works when she is at home).

* Mack is de "working name" that we are using for our 2nd child, short for Makeda (girl) or Mack, Mackenzie (boy); it’s not right to call our new child ‘it’.  But the chance that we’ll still use that name later is small.

At home we are trying to clear out as much as possible, read: I need to throw a lot away
We’re giving things away to charity and Jane is doing good business on eBay/Marktplaats.  (Do you need anything?  Let us know J)
We are hoping to rent the house out via an estate agent that rents accommodation to expats; we don’t want to leave it emtpy and it’s too expensive (maybe  I can rent it to a colleague, we’ll see).
We’re also looking for a temporary solution for the car, but with all the parking problems there isn’t much interest from anyone to take it off our hands (free!) for the time we are away.

The garage has been for sale for a while but there isn’t much happening, shame because it is empty and we could use the money!

I’ve sorted out a lot at work and have gone from 6 cupboards down to 1, now just need to sort out work stuff at home……

Even though some people think this is going to be one long holiday, we know that is not the case. With double outgoings – an apartment in Nairobi and a mortgage in Hoofddorp on just one income (Jane’s), there won’t be much left over for trips or safaris.
Our savings will be spend on adoption or related costs mainly.
Plus Jane will be working and I will be busy enough with 2 small children.

Matthew will go to school in Nairobi, but Ma(c)k will be with daddy most of the time.

And then there’s everything that needs to happen regarding the adoption once we are in Kenya too.

In the meantime we need to pack up some of the house contents and store it somewhere and we’re starting to think about things to take to Kenya too.

Next week my eldest sister is going to Kenya again for a month, so with a lot of luck we might see each other at some airport or other in March……
